This year’s Tanz-Signale (Dance Signals, the title of the waltz op. 218 by Johann Strauss I) symposium, organised by the Vienna Institute for Strauss Research (see www.johann-strauss.at), will be held from 14 to 17 March. The main venue will be the Casino Zögernitz in Vienna. The building, which dates from the 1830s and has now been completely restored and renovated, saw performances by Lanner, the Strausses, and Ziehrer. It is now home to the House of Strauss Museum (www.houseofstrauss.at). In the run-up to the Johann Strauss Festival Year 2025, the topic of the symposium is ‘Strauss and Vienna’. In addition to a programme of lectures, mostly in German, on Friday 15th and Saturday 16th, there will, as usual, be other supporting events. These include the ‘Strauss Colloquium’ on the evening of Thursday 14th and a Schrammel music matinée on Sunday 17th, as well as a concert with commentary by staff and students in the Vivaldi Room of the MUK, the Music University of the City of Vienna, on the morning of Friday 15th. All events are open to the public without the need for registration.
